The quarry located in Mariposa, California in the heart of the "gold country", has been in operation since the 1940's. The Verceles family, current owners and operators, have been quarrying the beautiful Yosemite Black Slate since 1979.
The family still processes the slate very much like it was done in the 40's, by hand, with hammers and chisels to preserve the natural color, grain and shape of the rock. The grains of gold and variations running through beautiful, durable Yosemite Black Slate are what give it its unique beauty.
